Malta Airport to Gozo: Bus, Taxi and Ferry Options

There is no road connection between Malta International Airport and Gozo. Every journey combines land transport in Malta with a ferry to Mġarr, Gozo. Check Gozo Channel passenger information for current ticketing arrangements.

The two main gateways are Ċirkewwa for the Gozo Channel passenger-and-vehicle ferry and Valletta for the fast passenger ferry.

TD1 to Ċirkewwa

Airport Direct TD1 connects the airport with Rabat, Buġibba, Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa. Malta Public Transport publishes an hourly frequency and an onboard fare of €3.50.

At Ċirkewwa, continue as a foot passenger on Gozo Channel to Mġarr. The operator's published crossing time is about 25 minutes and the current schedule runs daily, subject to weather and operational conditions.

Check the bus and ferry separately. Neither timetable guarantees the connection.

TD4 to Valletta and the fast ferry

Airport Direct TD4 links the airport with Valletta and the Gozo fast-ferry terminal. The published frequency is every 30 minutes, with an onboard fare of €3.

Gozo Highspeed carries foot passengers between Valletta and Gozo. The operator describes the crossing as approximately 45 minutes. Check its schedule, ticket terms and boarding time before choosing this route.

Taxi or private transfer

A taxi or pre-booked transfer can take you directly from the airport to Ċirkewwa. This can make sense for several passengers, heavy luggage, a late arrival or a tight ferry connection. Confirm the latest times on Gozo Channel Schedule.

Ask whether the quoted price covers only the drive to the Malta ferry terminal or includes onward transport after arriving in Gozo. A vehicle and driver continuing onto the ferry need the appropriate ferry ticket.

Rental car and vehicle ferry

If your rental agreement permits it, drive north to Ċirkewwa and board Gozo Channel with the vehicle. Gozo Channel carries vehicles and foot passengers and operates on a first-come, first-served basis rather than a reservation system.

Arriving in Gozo

Both main ferry options arrive at Mġarr. From there, buses connect with Victoria and other parts of Gozo, while licensed taxis are available for direct travel.
