Malta Airport Taxis and Private Transfers

Passengers arriving at Malta International Airport can use the official prepaid taxi, book through a ride-hailing app or arrange a private transfer before travelling. All provide door-to-door transport, but their prices and pickup process differ. For current official information, see Transport.

Official airport taxi

The airport's official taxi service is available 24 hours a day for destinations in Malta. Buy a prepaid ticket at the taxi booth in the Welcomers' Hall. The fare is fixed according to the destination before the journey begins.

This is the simplest choice when you do not want to install an app or negotiate a meeting point. Follow the booth's directions to the official taxi rank.

Current destination rates can change, so use the price displayed by the airport at the time of travel rather than an old table from another website.

Ride-hailing apps

App-booked services show the vehicle, pickup point and quoted price before confirmation. The amount may change with demand, vehicle type and waiting time.

The app may direct you to a designated pickup area rather than the official taxi rank. Confirm the registration number and driver shown in the booking before entering the vehicle.

Pre-booked private transfers

A private transfer can be useful for:

• A large group
• Child-seat requests
• Wheelchair-accessible transport
• Unusual luggage
• A late or early flight
• Travel to the Ċirkewwa ferry terminal

Before paying, confirm what the quote includes. Check the vehicle size, luggage allowance, child-seat charge, waiting time after a delayed flight, cancellation policy and exact meeting point.

Use a properly licensed operator. Keep the booking confirmation and provider contact details accessible after landing.

How licensed taxi fares work away from the airport booth

Transport Malta states that a taxi hired where there is no authorised taxi booth normally uses a taximeter. Its published maximum structure includes an initial charge, distance bands and possible waiting or slow-traffic charges.

That metered structure is different from the airport's prepaid fixed-rate booth and from a price quoted in a ride-hailing app. Ask which system applies before starting the trip.

• Match the vehicle and registration number to the booking.
• Confirm the destination before departure.
• Keep valuables and travel documents with you.
• Ask for the appropriate receipt or retain the digital booking record.
