Gozo Highspeed Ferry Guide: Routes, Fares and Tickets

Gozo Highspeed operates passenger ferries between Mġarr Harbour in Gozo and terminals in Valletta, Buġibba and Sliema. It is useful for travellers who do not need to take a car and want to avoid travelling to Ċirkewwa first.

Gozo Highspeed routes and fares

The operator currently publishes these standard adult and youth one-way fares:

Children, Gozo residents, eligible students, senior citizens, passengers with special needs and people travelling for qualifying hospital appointments may receive different fares.

Routes do not necessarily operate at the same frequency every day. Search the official Gozo Highspeed schedule for your exact date.

Is Gozo Highspeed a vehicle ferry?

No. Cars and motorcycles cannot travel on Gozo Highspeed.

Standard bicycles can be carried free, but spaces are limited. The operator recommends booking in advance to reserve rack space. E-bikes, e-scooters and push scooters with lithium-ion batteries are restricted to the outside deck and remain subject to the operator's conditions.

Use Gozo Channel from Ċirkewwa if you need to take a car to Gozo.

Where are the terminals?

The Valletta fast-ferry terminal is at Ta' Liesse in the Grand Harbour below the Upper Barrakka Gardens. The Barrakka Lift provides a connection between the waterfront and the gardens, subject to its operating status.

The Buġibba and Sliema departure points are shown during booking and on the operator's travel-information pages. Confirm the pin before leaving, as several boat and cruise operators use nearby waterfront areas.

All Gozo routes arrive at Mġarr Harbour. Buses and taxis connect the harbour with Victoria and other localities.

Tickets and boarding

Use the operator's website or booking system to select the route, date and departure. An advance ticket is sensible during busy periods and when you need space for a bicycle.

Arrive early enough to find the correct terminal and complete boarding. Do not assume that a ticket for one Malta terminal can be used from another without changing the booking.

Keep the ticket and any identification required for a resident, student, senior or other reduced fare ready for inspection.

Tallinja card travel

Malta Public Transport currently states that personalised Tallinja card holders can travel free on Gozo Highspeed services to and from Sliema and Buġibba.

However, the operator's fare page has displayed separate Tallinja wording for some services. Check the fare shown for your specific sailing on Gozo Highspeed Fares and compare it with Malta Public Transport's current Tallinja card fares and offers before relying on free travel.

The Valletta-Gozo route is not presented as generally free for all personalised Tallinja card holders.

Luggage rules

The published boarding conditions allow one piece of personal baggage up to 50 × 40 × 80 cm and one piece of hand luggage up to 37 × 45 × 25 cm and 5 kg.

Luggage must be placed where the crew directs. Check with the operator before travelling with unusually large items or equipment.

Pets and accessibility

Pets must be declared during booking. The operator allows up to two pets per passenger, subject to its pet policy and crew instructions. Large dogs may be required to wear a muzzle.

Passengers who require assistance should contact the operator before travel and notify staff when boarding. Mobility wheelchairs are treated differently from recreational battery-powered equipment.

Weather disruption

Fast-ferry services may be delayed, altered or cancelled because of sea conditions, technical issues or other operational factors.

Check live notices before travelling and leave a generous buffer before flights, appointments or other fixed connections. The operator states that it does not cover the cost of alternative transport caused by a cancellation or delay.

Is the fast ferry right for you?

Gozo Highspeed is often convenient for foot passengers staying near Valletta, Buġibba or Sliema. Gozo Channel may still be cheaper, more frequent or more suitable depending on the time of day and the journey to Ċirkewwa.
