Public Transport in Gozo: Buses, Routes and Travel Tips

Gozo uses the same Malta Public Transport bus system and ticket products as Malta. Routes connect Mġarr Harbour, Victoria and localities around the island, but many journeys require a change in Victoria. For current official information, see Victoria Bus Terminal.

Victoria is Gozo's main bus hub

Victoria Bus Terminal is the centre of Gozo's scheduled network. Many routes begin or end there, so a trip between two coastal villages may involve travelling to Victoria and changing buses.

This makes the network easy to understand, but transfers can increase journey time. Check both legs before leaving and allow a buffer when connecting with a ferry.

Buses from Mġarr Harbour

Scheduled services connect Mġarr Harbour with Victoria and other parts of Gozo. The correct route depends on your destination and travel time.

Finding a route in Gozo

The official routes page lists Gozo services in the 300 series and the N301 night route. For a specific trip:

1. Search by starting point and destination in the official journey planner.
2. Confirm the direction and stop name.
3. Check the scheduled time for the travel date. Check Routes and Timetables shortly before the visit or journey.
4. Look for live information and active service alerts shortly before leaving.

Fares and cards

Bus fares in Gozo follow the same published structure as Malta. You can pay the driver by cash, contactless bank card or compatible payment device.

A ticket bought on a regular daytime route is valid for two hours, including eligible transfers. This is useful when changing in Victoria, but the second boarding must fall within the ticket's validity period.

Planning around ferries

The Gozo Channel vehicle and passenger ferry operates between Ċirkewwa and Mġarr. Fast passenger services use different ports, so always confirm where the ferry leaves and arrives.

When travelling to a booked departure:

• Plan to reach the terminal before the operator's boarding cut-off.
• Allow for bus delays, traffic and transfers.
• Check the ferry operator's latest timetable and service notices.

• Use Victoria as the likely interchange when no direct route appears.
• Check the last practical return before visiting a rural or coastal location.
• Allow more time on Sundays, public holidays and outside peak hours.
• Carry water and sun protection while waiting at exposed stops in summer.
