Taxis in Gozo: Booking, Fares and Travel Tips

Availability at a stand is not guaranteed at every hour. Pre-book when arriving late, travelling with children or luggage, or needing an accessible or larger vehicle. For current official information, see Bolt in Gozo.

Taxis from Mġarr Harbour

Both Gozo Channel and Gozo Highspeed arrive at Mġarr Harbour. White taxis may wait at the ferry terminal, while app-based and pre-booked drivers use an agreed pickup point.

Confirm:

The ferry you are taking
Its scheduled arrival time
The pickup pin or meeting point
The accommodation's full address
The number of passengers and suitcases

Tell a pre-booked driver about a ferry delay as soon as possible. Do not assume the driver automatically receives live ferry information.

White-taxi fares in Gozo

The Transport Malta meter tariff applies to licensed white taxis in Malta and Gozo when the journey is not sold from an authorised fixed-fare booth.

The maximum tariff begins with a €3.50 initial charge. Distance rates then reduce in bands:

10 km to 15 km	€1.30 per km
15 km to 20 km	€1.00 per km

Waiting and slow-traffic charges can also apply. A journey carrying more than five passengers in addition to the driver may cost 50% more when the vehicle is licensed for that capacity.

Ask whether the journey will use the meter or an agreed booking price before departure.

Ride-hailing apps in Gozo

Bolt maintains an official Gozo service page and lists categories including standard rides, child-seat cars, comfort vehicles, minivans and green vehicles. The category available at the moment of booking may be more limited.

eCabs states that its service operates across Malta and Gozo. Book through the app or operator and check the live quote and pickup time.

Other app coverage can change. Enter the actual Gozo pickup point in the app instead of assuming that availability in Malta automatically extends to Gozo.

Booking a taxi for a full day

A point-to-point fare and a waiting or touring arrangement are different services. If you want a driver to wait at several attractions, agree in advance on:

Total duration
Included stops
Waiting time
Final drop-off
Price and payment method
Extra time or kilometre charges

Get the arrangement in writing by message or email. For a simple one-way journey, compare the live app quote with a traditional taxi or local operator.

Buses or taxis in Gozo?

Gozo's bus routes connect Mġarr Harbour, Victoria and many villages. A bus is cheaper, while a taxi is more direct.

A taxi is often more practical for:

Remote farmhouses
Late arrivals
Groups sharing the fare
Several large bags
Time-sensitive ferry connections
Travellers who cannot manage a long walk or bus transfer

Child seats, accessibility and pets

Request the correct vehicle when booking. Some app categories offer a child seat, larger vehicle or other assistance, but availability is not guaranteed.

If a passenger must remain in a wheelchair, ask specifically for a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. A driver who accepts a folded wheelchair does not necessarily have a ramp or wheelchair restraints.

Declare pets and large equipment before the driver arrives.

Confirm whether card or cash is accepted.
Use the correct harbour pickup point.
Leave extra time before the last practical ferry connection.
Do not accept an unrecorded off-app price from an app-assigned driver.
Keep a receipt if you need to report a fare or service problem.
