Bolt, Uber and eCabs in Malta: Ride-Hailing Guide
Compare Bolt, Uber and eCabs in Malta, including live pricing, vehicle choices, airport pickups, payment and booking tips.
Bolt, Uber and eCabs all offer pre-booked rides in Malta. The apps work in a similar way: enter the pickup and destination, compare the available vehicle categories and price, then confirm the ride. Verify the latest details with Bolt in Malta.
There is no permanently cheapest app. The quote and pickup time can change with demand, traffic, location, vehicle supply and promotions. Verify the latest details with Uber Malta.
Bolt, Uber and eCabs compared
| Service | How to book | Useful features |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt | Bolt app | Several car sizes, child-seat, assisted, green and pet categories where available |
| Uber | Uber app or web account | On-demand and advance booking, fare estimate and larger vehicle options where available |
| eCabs | App, website or telephone | Immediate or scheduled rides, several vehicle types and local customer support |
The categories displayed in the app are the categories available for that location and time. Do not depend on an option merely because it appeared during a previous journey.
How ride-hailing prices work
Enter the exact pickup and destination to see the current quote. The price can reflect:
- Journey distance and estimated time
- Current demand and driver supply
- Traffic
- Vehicle category
- Scheduled or immediate pickup
- Waiting, stops or a changed destination
- Promotions or account benefits
Compare like with like. A basic three-passenger category should not be compared directly with a premium vehicle or eight-seat minivan.
The regulated meter tariff for a traditional white taxi is a different system. Our taxis in Malta guide explains both.
Bolt in Malta
Bolt's official Malta page currently lists categories including Basic, Bolt, Comfort, Minivan, Prime, Assist, Green, Child Seat and Pets.
Passenger and luggage capacity differs. Bolt describes its Minivan category as seating up to eight passengers, while its Child Seat category is intended for children around two to six years and 10–30 kg. Contact the driver if the child's exact limits matter.
Bolt Assist drivers can help seniors and passengers with disabilities, but the category is not a wheelchair-accessible vehicle service. Wheelchairs must be foldable. Transport Malta publishes the current light passenger transport rules.
Uber in Malta
Uber operates its ride service in Malta through the Uber app. Entering a trip shows the currently available ride types, timing and price.
Advance booking may be available, but a scheduled ride should still include enough buffer for traffic and airport or ferry check-in. Vehicle categories, including larger options, vary by area and supply.
Use the safety and trip-sharing tools inside the app, and report lost property or a fare issue through the relevant journey in your account.
eCabs in Malta
eCabs is a Malta-based service that accepts bookings through its app, website and telephone line. The app allows immediate or future bookings and displays the price and pickup estimate before confirmation.
Published ride categories have included economy, electric or hybrid, larger vans, premium vehicles, pet-friendly rides and a booster-seat option. Check the current descriptions rather than assuming a particular seat or vehicle is available.
eCabs states that payment options can include a bank card, Apple Pay or cash selected through the app. The actual options appear before confirmation.
Airport pickups
All three services can be used for airport journeys when a suitable ride is available. Select Malta International Airport as the pickup and follow the app's pin and driver instructions.
The ride-hailing pickup area may differ from the white-taxi rank. Do not wait at a taxi booth unless your booking tells you to do so.
When pre-booking a pickup after a flight, enter the correct arrival date and allow for immigration and luggage collection. If the service supports flight tracking, confirm that the correct flight number is attached.
See our full Malta Airport taxis and private transfers guide for the fixed-fare white-taxi option as well.
Paying and avoiding surprises
- Confirm the currency and final quote before booking.
- Check whether cash or in-app payment is selected.
- Add every required stop before confirming where possible.
- Avoid making the driver wait while the group is still collecting luggage.
- Read the cancellation rule for a scheduled ride.
- Use the receipt in the app to challenge an incorrect charge.
Do not arrange an off-app price with a driver assigned through an app. Keeping the journey within the service preserves the booking record and available support.
Child seats, groups and luggage
Book the required category rather than adding a request note to an unsuitable car.
For a child, check the seat's stated age, weight and height range. For a large group, count passengers and luggage: a vehicle with enough seats may still lack space for several large suitcases.
If the correct category is unavailable, use another operator or pre-book a licensed transfer.
Which app should you use?
Install more than one if you expect to use taxis regularly. At booking time, compare:
- Total price
- Pickup estimate
- Vehicle size
- Cancellation terms
- Special requirements
