Malta Night Buses: Routes, Fares and Late-Night Travel
Plan late-night travel in Malta with current night bus routes, fares, Tallinja card rules, On Demand coverage and safer journey tips.
Malta Public Transport operates scheduled night routes to selected destinations. These services do not cover every locality or run at the same frequency every night, so check the exact timetable before relying on one.

Night bus fares
A night-route ticket bought on board costs €3.00. Cash, contactless bank cards and compatible payment devices are accepted. Confirm the current amount on Fares.
Holders of a valid personalised Tallinja card can travel free on scheduled night routes, but the card must be tapped on boarding. Visitor-card deductions or inclusions depend on the product. Compare them in our Malta bus fares and tickets guide.
Tallinja On Demand
Tallinja On Demand is a separate app-booked shared minibus service. It currently operates Friday to Sunday between 19:00 and 03:00 in Sliema, San Ġwann, St Julian's and Swieqi.
It has a separate fare and is not free with a personalised card. Read our Tallinja On Demand guide for booking and coverage details.
Special late-night services
Additional services may run for concerts, village feasts, festivals and other major events. They are announced through Malta Public Transport's news and service-update pages.
An event service may use a special route, departure point or fare. Check the operator's announcement rather than assuming the normal night timetable applies.
Planning a late journey
Before going out:
- Check the last suitable departure in the correct direction.
- Save the stop name and stop code.
- Review service alerts and diversions.
- If no scheduled route fits, check whether Tallinja On Demand is available for the journey.
- Decide on a backup taxi or ride-hailing option.
- Keep enough phone battery and mobile data to check live arrivals.
- Wait in a well-lit place where possible.
Do not plan a flight or ferry connection around the final bus without a generous buffer. For late airport travel, compare buses with the options in our Malta Airport transport guide.
If no night bus serves your destination
A licensed taxi, app-booked cab or pre-arranged transfer may be the practical alternative. Our taxis in Malta guide explains the available booking methods.
Schedules and route coverage are volatile. Confirm the exact departure on the official route page on the day of travel. Confirm the latest times on All Routes and Timetables.
