Malta e-ID and Online Government Services
Set up and use Malta e-ID for public services, then keep contact details secure and know where to get help when access fails.
Malta e-ID is the online identity used for many public services. It is linked to verified identity and contact details rather than being a separate physical card.
Subscribe or activate through Identità’s current process, use a private email and phone you control, then test access before a filing or appointment deadline.
Set up access before the first urgent application
Eligibility
A valid Maltese identity or residence document is generally required for the e-ID account route.
Access
The account can be used for services listed through Servizz.gov, including tax, social security and public applications. Eligible users can also access health records through myHealth.
Security
Treat activation links, passwords, PINs and identity-card details as sensitive.
Get e-government access working
- Confirm which identity or residence process gives you eligibility for e-ID access.
- Follow Identità's current e-ID Virtual Account activation procedure.
- Use a personal email and phone number you control.
- Complete the first login and recovery setup.
- Test access to the specific government service you expect to use.
- Update contact details through the authorised route when they change.
- Keep application receipts outside the account as backup evidence.
Questions when access fails
- Is the identity record active and spelled correctly?
- Is the problem with credentials or the individual service?
- Which email or mobile number is registered?
- Is in-person identity verification required?
- What is the official recovery route?
Password recovery is not a deadline strategy
Test credentials before a tax, residence, health or school submission becomes urgent. Corrections may involve more than resetting a password.

Protect the recovery route
Do not share codes or let an intermediary control the email and phone used to recover your government identity.
